Nine years after the Walters Community Support Center at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., was dedicated in memory of a Buena Vista native, Col. Kenny Walters, a rededication ceremony was held for “The Kenny,” as the center is affectionately nicknamed. A new bust of Walters was unveiled during the ceremony.
Members of Walters’ family, including his wife Amy and brother Randy, traveled to Little Rock, Ark., last month for the rededication ceremony. The center is a vital hub for military support services at the base.
A 1983 graduate of Parry McCluer High School and 1988 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Walters served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force. He died of cancer on May 19, 2012. He was the 19th Mission Support Group deputy commander at Little Rock AFB.
During the ceremony, Walters was lauded for leaving a lasting legacy of support and innovation, including spearheading educational initiatives and enhancing the quality of life for personnel stationed at the base.
Among the dignitaries who spoke during the ceremony were Gen. Mike Minihan, Air Mobility Command commander, and Col. Denny Davies, 19th Airlift Wing and installation commander.
Also speaking was Randy Walters, who said his brother “loved Little Rock AFB and the people here. … This base was so special to Kenny, and it will always be a special place to our family.”
