Douglas, Shester Picked For LSB Posts

Lexington City Council made two appointments to the Lexington City School Board at last Thursday’s meeting, appointing Katherine Shester to a second term and LaTonya Douglas to her first term on the board. The terms will run through the end of 2026, and the seats will be up for election for the first time in November of that year.

“I am humbled and honored to be reappointed to the Lexington City School Board,” Shester told The News-Gazette. “My family has benefited so much from our local schools and it is a privilege to be able to give back to the community in this capacity.”

Douglas could not be reached for comments or a photo. Council member David Sigler made the motions to appoint Shester and Douglas to the School Board, with Chuck Smith seconding the motion for Shester and Nicholas Betts seconding the motion for Douglas. Both motions passed in a 5-0 vote. Vice Mayor Marilyn Alexander recused herself from the discussion and votes on the appointments, citing the fact that her daughter was one of the applicants being considered.

The first elections for the Lexington City School Board will be held this fall, with three seats up for election.
