Hats Off To SPCA

June 24, 2024

Editor, The News-Gazette: Animal Adventure Camp at the Rockbridge SPCA just ended with another successful week. The theme, which is new each year, was “Animals in Outer Space,” and the activities were out of this world!

It amazes me that while still running the shelter, feeding a full house twice a day, cleaning kennels, answering the community’s questions, phone calls, etc., Tara Rodi and her very hardworking staff create and run activities that are fun and educational for the approximately 60 children from ages 5-12.

It is an honor to help in a small way as a volunteer. My hope is that our community will recognize the dedication of the staff day in and day out, often “cleaning up the messes” (not just in the kennels!) of sadly irresponsible pet owners who do not spay and neuter their animals or who just “don’t want their pet anymore.” How often do they hear “Spot got too big,” or “Ruffy is too old now?” Or, their animals have puppies they don’t want?

Please honor this amazing community resource by volunteering, donating money, food or whatever you can. And, please take good care of your own pets and set a good example for your children. Rockbridge County can do better! JULIE GOODRICH Rockbridge Baths
