The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Washington and Lee University is organizing a local relief effort to help the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and northern Syria.

Led by student Sue Ann McCarty, the department will be collecting supplies being requested by the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., through this Friday.

Those items include disaster tents, new blankets, new sleeping bags, floor mats for disaster tents, camping chairs, heaters (220V compatible or with converter), and generators (with 220V outlet or with converter). At this point, the embassy has received sufficient clothing donations.

Students and area residents are invited to bring the items to Newcomb Hall 309 on the W&L campus or email McCarty at [email protected] to arrange pickup. Items can also be sent directly to the embassy per instructions on its website.

The items collected at W&L are to be driven to Washington on Saturday.
