With six teams competing in the rec bracket of the Rockbridge Area Recreation Organization adult softball league, the Weewoo’s, comprised of police officers, defeated The Need 4 Speed 26-16 in the championship game last Wednesday night at Brewbaker Field in Lexington. In total, with six teams in the more competitive high bracket at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista, there were 15 teams total playing, up from 12 last year and eight two years ago, when RARO adult softball returned after a hiatus of about 20 years. “It was another great season,” said RARO executive director Chad Coffey. “It’s slowly grown over the last three years.” Coffey added that there was “great community support” for softball, with several businesses forming teams to compete. “It was fun to see these groups do something outside of work,” said Coffey.
