FCCLA Students Compete At State

This spring, members and advisers of the Rockbridge County High School Wildcat chapter of FCCLA traveled to Virginia Beach for the annual state conference and leadership competition.

Chapter President Daniel Grimm once again took part in the conference sessions and ceremonies onstage as a special guest (returning state officer). Amanda Grimm, adviser, won an award for Master Adviser, having been an adviser for seven years, the past four at RCHS.

Including Daniel Grimm, 19 chapter members attended the conference and competed in the Star Event competitions this year. Several students earned top rankings and five qualified for the national competition to be held in Seattle, Wash., this summer.

Winners in the state-only events included: Baking and Pastry, Level 3, Dakota Loan, bronze.

Culinary Arts, Showpiece, Level 3 Jozalyn Hubbard, silver; Culinary Arts, Showpiece, Level 2 – Fatima Wean-Tenorio, silver, first place; Haley Plogger, silver, third place.

Culinary Arts, Breads, Level 2 - Karla Macedo, silver, first place.

Winners in the national events competition included: Focus on Children, Level 2 – Lilly Woody, Jamie Rodriguez-Lopez and Brittany Rodriguez-Lopez, bronze.

Focus on Children - Level 2 McKenna Chittum and Laila Thomas, bronze.

Leadership, Level 3 - Kamilah Meeks, bronze.

Sports Nutrition, Level 3 - Brooke Eichelberger and Jacob King, bronze, second place.

Food Innovations, Level 3 - Rachel Bowyer, silver.

Nutrition and Wellness, Level 3 - Mattie Robinson, silver.

National Programs in Action, Level 3 Daniel Grimm, silver.

Food Innovations, Level 2 - Ava Dahl and Cate Skaggs, gold, first place.

Say Yes to FCS Education, Level 3 Cheyanne Clark, gold, first place.

-The five students who qualified for the national contest held June 28-July 3 in Seattle, Washington, were Brooke Eichelberger, Jacob King, Ava Dahl, Catherine Skaggs and Cheyanne Clark. However, because due to the expense, only two students attended.
