Cline ‘Not Supporting Bills That Benefit Us’

July 8, 2024

Editor, The News Gazette: Swimming pools - cool relief. The Glen Maury Park pool is providing relief to many, and will continue to do so this summer. The pool needs repairs (estimated at $650,000). The Health Department said that without the repairs the pool would have to close. Fortunately, Buena Vista had received funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) - signed into law by President Biden in March 2021.

Ben Cline voted no. Over the last several years we have received more than $14.6 million in Rockbridge County, Lexington, Buena Vista and Glasgow as a result of ARPA, and we’ve been able to undertake or plan for much-needed capital improvements.

Fund amounts from ARPA include:

• Rockbridge County: $4.4 million - future broadband, school security, emergency dispatch, water and sewer studies.

• Lexington: $9,176,600 bridge repairs, sewer lining, other capital projects.

• Buena Vista: $300,000 Town Square and improvements at Glen Maury Park (in addition to the funds allocated for the pool).

• Glasgow: $70,000 for the community center, additional funds to the rescue squad and fire department, and for the drinking water system.

Almost 15 million dollars in funding from ARPA for our communities, and Ben Cline voted no!

During the Biden administration many other beneficial bills have passed: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (BIL), ($1.2 trillion in funds), The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, The CHIPS Act, The Inflation Reduction Act, The Right to Contraception Act.

Ben Cline voted no on all of them.

Ben Cline is not representing us, or supporting bills that benefit us. He violated his oath by voting not to certify the 2020 election results. No more!

Ken Mitchell will work for us. He is a 24-year veteran (including six years at the White House). He will protect our rural areas and defend our democracy.

Say no to Ben Cline, and vote yes to Ken Mitchell. LOUISE WARD Lexington
