It Works Both Ways, Says Reader

July 15, 2024

Editor, The News-Gazette: Democrat leaders, including President Joe Biden, blame President Trump for causing the January 6 “insurrection” by using speech they and the press called inflammatory. Remarkably, the president who took office promising to unite our nation spent the past 3 1/2 years attacking “MAGA Republicans” as racist, sexist and being an existential threat to democracy.

Even Nicholas Roske’s attempted June 2022 attack on Justice Brett Kavanaugh failed to deter President Biden, Democrat leaders and the mainstream press from spouting their bombast. President Biden recently accused President Trump of rape and of subverting our democracy, while The New Republic sported a picture of Mr. Trump, doctored to look like Adolf Hitler, on its cover. Coupled with the Russian collusion hoax and more than seven years of attacks on Trump and conservative Republicans, Democrats characterize political dialogue over policy differences as a matter of good versus evil.

Using the same standard that Mr. Biden and Democrats used to judge President Trump since 2020, one might accuse President Biden of inducing the July 13 assassination attempt by his reckless and inflammatory rhetoric. We thank God for sparing President Trump while we pray for those who fell victim to Thomas Matthew Crook. We pray for President Biden, that he might stop dividing our people; and for our nation, that we might again be able to disagree without being disagreeable. SCOTT RISSER Lexington
