Mountain Gateway Community College has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining a 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This accreditation body plays a crucial role in upholding the quality and standards of higher education institutions.
The reaffirmation granted to the college signifies that it has met and maintained the necessary educational standards without any further action or reporting obligations.
Dr. John Rainone, president of MGCC, expressed his excitement over the reaffirmation, emphasizing its significance. “This achievement underscores our unwavering dedication to academic integrity, student success, and ongoing improvement,” he said.
Reaffirmation is a thorough process that requires compliance with 73 standards covering governance, policies, faculty, curriculum, student services, and finance. The evaluation involves off-site and on-site review committees, and strict adherence to SACSCOC policies and standards is crucial for accreditation.
“MGCC provides top-tier education backed by our regional accreditor. Our faculty and staff remain committed to maintaining these high standards, evident in every aspect of our institution,” Rainone said.
As the community’s college, Mountain Gateway will continue to prepare students to reach their potential through high standards, dynamic programming, financial and geographic accessibility, and an inclusive community, said a school spokesperson.
MGCC’s next SACSCOC reaffirmation is expected in 2034. Mountain Gateway Community College will welcome both new and returning students to campus for the first day of class on Aug. 26. Interested students may apply at mgcc.edu/apply. Call Student Services at (540) 863-2820 to register for courses.
