At the monthly meeting of the Green Hills Garden Club on July 8, President Lucy Hayes announced several recent club awards.
At the state level, the club was awarded a red ribbon for its 2023 yearbook and blue ribbons in two categories: Youth Environmental Education and Historic Preservation.
The Youth Environmental Education Award was based on the club’s assistance to Boxerwood’s “Growing Native” program in which county fourth-graders plant native tree seedlings. The Historic Preservation Award recognized the club’s installation of plant material around a sign at New Providence Presbyterian Church in preparation for the placement of a Virginia historic marker nearby. This project went on to receive a blue ribbon in the National Garden Club’s South Atlantic Region.
