CrowdStrike Outage Affecting Local Banks

July 19 - Early this morning, what was originally a routine software update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused a massive global outage across businesses which function on Microsoft Windows operating systems, including airlines, health care organizations, retail stores and banks.

Airports have been a place of chaos, with severe delays and cancellations impacting travel plans.

Several banks in the Rockbridge area reached by The News-Gazette this morning reported experiencing technical difficulties in both online banking and in-branch services. Those banks include Atlantic Union, Bank of the James and CornerStone.

Companies are actively working to restore services, but it is yet to be known when these issues will be completely resolved.
