Child Care Survey Underway In County

In a concerted effort to address the growing demand for child care services in the Rockbridge region, local authorities have launched a comprehensive survey aimed at assessing current capacities and formulating a strategic plan. This initiative comes amidst increasing concerns from families and caregivers about the availability and accessibility of childcare in the area.

The survey, which is being conducted by the South East Rural Commission Against Poverty in collaboration with community stakeholders, seeks to gather vital information regarding existing child care options, including day care centers, preschools, and in-home providers. Key as- See Survey page 4 pects being evaluated include capacity, affordability, quality of care, and geographical distribution across the region.

“We recognize the critical importance of child care services in supporting working families and ensuring the developmental needs of young children are met,” stated Brandy Flint, director of economic development for Rockbridge County. “This survey will serve as a foundational step towards developing a strategic plan that addresses current gaps and enhances the overall child care landscape in the Rockbridge region.”

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the survey to provide valuable insights into their experiences and needs related to child care. The data collected, said Flint, will be instrumental in identifying areas where additional resources and support are required, as well as opportunities for collaboration between public and private sectors.

“We want to hear from parents, guardians, educators, businesses, and child care providers alike,” emphasized Flint. “Their input is crucial in shaping policies and initiatives that will ultimately benefit our community’s youngest members.”

Flint advised that the survey results and the subsequent draft strategic plan will be released within the coming months, followed by a series of public forums to discuss implementation strategies and gather further community feedback to finalize the plan.

Residents interested in participating in the survey can access it online through the Rockbridge County website (ht tps://www. co.rockbridge.va.us/CivicAlerts. aspx?AID=607) or by contacting the office of economic development directly at (540) 463-1743. The deadline for survey submissions is set for Aug. 16, after which data analysis and planning will commence.

“Through collaborative efforts and community engagement,” said Flint, “the Rockbridge region aims to build a childcare system that meets the needs of families today and supports business growth and vitality.”
