Strategic Plan Process Proposed

A class of Virginia Military Institute cadets are to participate in drawing up a strategic plan for the city of Buena Vista, under a proposal presented to City Council this past Thursday.

The design of the plan would be overseen by Michael Hicks, a visiting professor from Ball State University who will be teaching at VMI during the upcoming fall semester.

The plan, according to material prepared by Hicks, is to be “designed to align public sector activity towards goals that are broadly shared by the citizens of Buena Vista. As such, it may help guide investment and programming decisions for public funds, align community and economic development policies and guide private sector support for community goals.”

Council is to consider approving the process for development the strategic plan at its next meeting on Aug. 1.
