The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will hold its summer chicken barbecue and fundraiser raffle drawing on Saturday, July 27, at the Effinger Fire Department building. The barbecue will begin at noon and continue until sold out. Chicken halves ($7) and whole dinners ($13) will be available for purchase. Payment may be made in cash or by check. A chicken dinner will include a half chicken, choice of two sides, a roll, applesauce, and iced tea. The side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, or slaw. Food items may be purchased as carryout but some seating for indoor dining will be available.
The drawing for the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s annual raffle fundraiser will also be held on Saturday, July 27. This year’s raffle will have drawings for 26 prizes. The top prize is $5,000 cash. To purchase raffle tickets, contact any fire department member or call (540) 463-1933.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Women’s annual Church World Service “School Bag” campaign is approaching the halfway point in filling 260 canvas tote bags with basic school supplies for distribution to needy students in the United States and around the world. The community is invited to participate in this effort and can obtain bags and a list of supplies by calling the church office at (540) 463-5918. Financial donations for the purchase of supplies to fill the bags may also be given. Those wishing to make a financial gift to the School Bag campaign should designate the gift for school bags and mail it to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450. Filled bags are to be returned to the church by Aug. 11 for distribution.
The churches of the Collierstown United Methodist Charge are leading the July outdoor worship services at the Lake Robertson campground Chapel at 9 a.m. Area residents are invited to join Lake Robertson campers for worship outdoors.
Orders and listings for the 2025 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar are now being received by the Effinger Ruritan Club. The cost of the calendar is $4. Birthday, anniversary, and memorial listings are 35 cents each. Calendars and listings may be purchased by contacting an Effinger Ruritan Club member. Orders and calendar listing much be received Aug. 10.
Plans for the Palmer Ice Cream Supper sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club are underway.
