January 6 Statements ‘Debunked’

July 22, 2024

Editor, The News-Gazette: Columnist Glenn Rose repeated claims that have been debunked, including the charge Trump sent protestors to storm the Capitol. As Trump was speaking at the Washington Monument, a group was already doing battle at the Capitol over a mile away.

In his speech, Trump said, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard today.”

Mr. Rose also is apparently not aware of the tape of Nancy Pelosi saying the riot at the Capitol was “all her fault.” She should have accepted the National Guard troops offered by President Trump.

General Kellogg also confirmed President Trump authorized up to 10,000 National Guard troops to defend the Capitol and other government buildings. Instead, the only National Guard troops were assigned to do traffic control by the D.C. mayor’s office. PEGGY PAINTER Natural Bridge

Editor’s note: According to the Poynter Institute’s Politi-Fact, in the video referenced in this letter, Nancy Pelosi said, “I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more,” when talking about U.S. Capitol security.
