A severe storm caused scattered damage to telephone and electrical equipment and to roads and bridges in Lexington and other areas of the county. The damage was especially bad in the Collierstown and Buffalo Forge areas where roads were washed out and drainage ditches were blocked. -A big increase in both circulation and registrations was reported by the Botetourt-Rockbridge Regional Library. -E.G. Shepherd Jr. and his wife Betsy Shepherd took over the ownership of the Chiles-Barger store in Natural Bridge Station.

Stonewall Jackson Hospital reported that an audit showed losses of $5.2 million in 2003 and additional loss of 2.3 million in 2002. The losses were attributed to debt associated with construction costs as well as inconsistent billing and collection practices. - The Buena Vista Planning Commission voted unanimously to allow Southern Virginia University to tear down the Seay House, a landmark on the city’s Seminary Hill. - Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder performed a well attended concert at the Virginia Horse Center’s Anderson Coliseum. All proceeds benefited the VHC Foundation.
