Editor, The News-Gazette: As I watched bits and pieces of the Republican National Convention, what struck me was that something big was missing. Where were all the stalwart Republicans familiar to us: three former vice presidents, two former Speakers of the House (not McCarthy) and the last living Republican president known as “W”? The truth is that none of these Real Republicans wanted to show their face at a convention of MAGA RINOs who don’t know the meaning of the word Republican. I’m talking about the kind of Republicans I grew up with when Ronald Reagan was governor of California. Real Republicans stand for not only fiscal responsibility in government, but also justice, integrity, rule of law and willingness to work “across the aisle” with the Dems to forge policies which will be beneficial to all Americans – not just the wealthy and corporations.
The true defining moment of this convention was when Hulk Hogan, that “personification of manhood,” tore off his outer shirt. “What a man!” probably crossed the minds of many other males wishing they had his “physical attributes,” while what crossed my mind was, “fake stud on steroids.”
If this (and Kid Rock) are the standards for the MAGAS at their conventions, we’re in big trouble. Will the REAL REPUBLICANS please come back and rescue your party from this hideousness? BETH HOUSER Lexington
