County resident Dori Hamilton was on a walk recently when she happened upon this bald-faced hornets nest in an old Roanoke Times “tube” or delivery box on Jacktown Road. She could see hornets flying around it so she kept her distance when taking this picture. The bald-faced hornet is unique in that it can spray venom from its stinger into the eyes of an intruder causing watering of the eyes and temporary blindness.
