RAHC Strengthens Community

Aug. 1, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: As we celebrate National Health Center Week Aug. 4-10, it is an opportune time to recognize the vital role the Rockbridge Area Health Center plays in our community’s healthcare and wellness. RAHC’s commitment to providing access to high-quality, affordable care for all is nothing short of remarkable.

Evolving from a free clinic into a federally qualified health center, RAHC now offers comprehensive services across five fixed locations and through its mobile medical and dental units. In 2023 alone, nearly 9,000 friends and neighbors in our local community received primary medical, dental and behavioral health care services from RAHC. Of those served, 70 percent are considered lowincome, are on Medicaid, or are uninsured. Furthermore, RAHC provided $1.1 million worth of charitable healthcare, while also creating jobs for over 100 citizens in our community.

RAHC’s extensive range of services comprises medical care, including women’s healthcare, pediatrics, diabetes and nutrition services, and much more. The center is particularly committed to serving our veteran population as an approved alternative service site to the VA hospital. Behavioral health services offered include counseling, psychiatry and substance use treatment. On the dental side, services range from preventive care, such as sealants and x-rays, to extractions and dentures.

The breadth and depth of services RAHC offers are truly incredible, making it an indispensable resource for the greater Rockbridge community.

As we acknowledge National Health Center Week, I encourage everyone who is a patient or supporter of the Rockbridge Area Health Center to take a moment to thank a provider or renew your support of this local gem. RAHC exists to strengthen our community by providing healthcare for all, and it deserves our heartfelt gratitude and support. DAN LYONS Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors, Kerrs Creek district
