Chris Bruno is the guest artist at Nelson Gallery for the month of August. Having raw talent and growing up in an artistic, creative family helped shape Bruno’s style. His father is a popular photographer and his mother is a highly respected painter. Both were generous early on, sharing ideas and techniques with their son. Today Bruno’s paintings are highly creative, distinctly original and thought-provoking. He began his professional career as a photographer but a love of painting grew in him by studying the work of other artists he admired at art shows, and of course by experimenting with various mediums and working on different surfaces (from board to fabric to even, found objects). In time, exposure and trial worked its magic and he developed his own visual “look”. What one will find evident in his work is a love of folk art and a respect for the primitive point of view. His messages are sometimes profound, often clever and (occasionally) even comic.
