Winners of the 2024 Rockbridge County Litter Cup are the Litter Eliminators, who claimed the top prize in the Rockbridge Community Cleanup for the fourth year in a row.
The Litter Eliminators picked up and bagged litter along the U.S. 11 corridor, to the west and east of the U.S. 60 bypass, as well as a portion of the bypass and the Mc-Corkle Road area.
The cup was presented to the Litter Eliminators by Daniel Miear, the county’s solid waste and recycling manager, during the July 22 meeting of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors. Miear noted that 16 teams and 215 individuals participated in this year’s community cleanup the last week of March.
Miear said he also wanted to recognize the G. Litter Bugs, organized by Elizabeth Taylor, office manager for the sheriff’s department. Among those who participated on this team were school resource officers and students. This team actually collected the most bags, 110, and many large items. Because they didn’t provide photos of what they’d collected, though, they were ineligible for the Litter Cup. Miear praised this team and all other participants for doing an outstanding job in helping clean up the county’s roadsides.
