W&L’s DiSibio To Play Pro In Italy
Robert DiSibio, who graduated from Washington and Lee University this spring, has signed a contract to join Fortitudo Agrigento of Serie B Nazionale in Agrigento, Sicily, the team recently announced.
“I feel extremely blessed and excited for the opportunity to carry out my lifelong dream of playing professional basketball,” said DiSibio. “I love and wholeheartedly thank everyone that has supported me throughout my journey. My parents deserve a special thank you. I cannot put into words the amount of appreciation I have for their constant support and unwavering sacrifice. It has allowed me to pursue an uncommon path and follow my dream.”
DiSibio, who played forward for the Generals, heads to Italy following a highly successful collegiate career that saw him tally the fifth-most points in program history (1,708) and the second-most made 3-pointers in program history (190). DiSibio was a 46.5 percent shooter from the floor and connected on 38.9 percent of long-range attempts. His scoring was especially prolific during his final two seasons, as he averaged better than 22 points per game both years and led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in scoring average both seasons.
DiSibio closed his collegiate career as a three-time All-ODAC selection, with first team nods as a junior and senior. He then added D3hoops.com Second Team All-Region and NABC First Team All-District laurels in his senior season, and he holds the ODAC Tournament record for most points in a single game (46).
“We are very proud of Rob for signing with Fortitudo Agrigento,” said his W&L coach, Chris McHugh. “Throughout his career, he has approached his development with great effort, focus and professionalism. Rob will add great value to the culture and basketball level of their team.”
DiSibio added, “I can say with certainty that I wouldn’t be in this position if not for my time at Washington and Lee. I can’t thank Coach McHugh enough for giving me the opportunity to continually develop as a basketball player and a human being. I have supreme confidence that the principles I learned as a General will serve me positively at the next level. I also thank all my former W&L teammates for helping me to become a better version of myself every day. I’ll never forget the memories we made together.”
DiSibio is the first W&L player to sign a professional basketball contract since Roy McMillan (Class of 2018) signed with the Terceira Basket Club in Angro de Heroismo, Portugal in 2019. The Italy Serie B basketball season gets underway in late September.
