High Bridge

Thanks to the Rev. Linda Trumbo of Covington for being the guest speaker this past Sunday at High Bridge Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Willis will return to the pulpit this Sunday after visiting with family in North Carolina.

The Christian Education Committee decided last week to have Rally Day beginning at 10 a.m. on Sept. 8 with breakfast provided for those attending. Sunday school classes officially begin the following Sunday, Sept. 15, starting at 10 also.

The Presbyterian Women’s mission for this quarter will be collecting clothing for the Clothes Closet at Natural Bridge Elementary School, specifically sizes 5-12 with an emphasis on elastic waists. Faye Worley will be collecting the donations each Sunday at the church.

There will be a “Hootenanny” sing in the pavilion outside the church on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.

Small Group will meet for Bible study on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. with Joe Hawes in the fellowship hall.

Beth Horon United Methodist Church will have an ice cream supper Saturday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. A plate lunch consisting of hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw and cake will also be available.

The Natural Bridge High School class of 1984 held their 40th reunion at the Natural Bridge firehouse Saturday night Aug. 10. Helping to organize the reunion was Mark Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va. It was attended by 25 classmates and guests. Classmate Jeff Tolley of Plank Road was disc jockey for the event. Classmates attended from Georgia, Tennessee, D.C., Smith Mountain Lake, Richmond, Charlottesville and the surrounding area.

Mark your calendars for Aug. 25, when Sunday worship will be held at Cave Mountain Lake pavilion. There will be a covered-dish luncheon after worship at the lake. David Whitmore will have transportation from the parking area to the pavilion for those who need it. Weather permitting, there will be swimming and other activities to take place afterwards.

The Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, and close at 11. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned fruit and vegetable oil for the food pantry during the month of August.
