The Palmer Ice Cream Supper hosted by the Effinger Ruritan Club is this Saturday, Aug.17. The event will be held at the Palmer Community Center, 1230 Blue Grass Trail, beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 8. The Effinger Ruritan Club invites all to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the free live musical entertainment that will be offered throughout the evening. Food items that will be available for purchase include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, vegetarian chili, French fries, corn on the cob, and homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. A non-dairy homemade ice cream will also be available for patrons as well. Ice cream will be available to purchase in quart containers to take home.
Funds raised from the sale of food, ice cream and the 50/50 drawing will be used to support the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an evening outdoors with friends. The event will be held rain or shine!
It’s not too late to purchase the 2025 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar, prepared and sold by the Effinger Ruritan Club. The cost of the calendar is $4. Birthday, anniversary and memorial listings are 35 cents each. Calendars may be purchased at the Palmer Ice Cream Supper or from any Effinger Ruritan Club member.
The 11 a.m. worship service of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church led by Burr Datz on Sunday, Aug. 11, included a blessing of the backpacks/school bags and their owners at the service’s opening. Teachers, students and coaches were invited to bring their backpacks and school bags and to be recognized by the church family and receive a prayer of blessing for the coming school year. The prayer of blessing was also extended to the recipients of the school bags that have been made by the congregation and will be distributed by Church World Service.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Women concluded their annual “School Bag Campaign” on Sunday, Aug. 11. A goal of preparing 260 canvas tote bags of school supplies to be distributed to needy students was surpassed and continues to climb. Special thanks to Louise Tardy who made all the attractive and sturdy canvas bags that have been filled. Many thanks to everyone who gave school supplies or monetary gifts that helped make this project a church and community wide effort! On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Rev. Bill Klein will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The sacrament of Baptism will be administered, and a congregational meeting will be held following the service for the purpose of electing a nominating committee to secure elders for the class of 2028. Following the service, Lemonade on the Lawn will be provided by the Witness & Congregational Care Committee on the front lawn for all to enjoy. The 9 a.m. chapel service for Lake Robertson campers will be led by Roger Lees. Community residents are invited to join the campers attending the outdoor service at 9 in the campground chapel each Sunday during August at Lake Robertson.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, members and friends of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will gather on the church grounds at 10:30 a.m. for the church’s annual summer outdoor worship service followed by a covered-dish picnic lunch on the church grounds. The worship service will be led by Burr Datz and Jeremiah Holland will provide special music.
