Beginning Sept. 7, Rockbridge Community Yoga (ROCY) will be back at Lylburn Downing Community Center every Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Rockbridge Community Yoga began in April 2014 when a group of area yoga teachers wanted to make yoga more inclusive, and find a way for anyone to experience the many benefits of yoga.
With Lexington City Schools offering space, area teachers donating their time and talents, and “pay what you can” pricing Saturday classes began. From April 14 to February 2020 the program had a successful run, said a spokeswoman. Eleven different yoga teachers facilitated classes, an average of 59 folks participated each month, and over $25,500 was donated to local nonprofits. Then Covid happened, and the program was suspended.
It’s four years post-Covid, the teachers have reorganized, and are ready to restart the program using the same format, said the spokeswoman. ROCY has blankets, blocks, some straps and a few mats.
“So find a friend, wear comfortable clothes and join others on Saturdays for a yoga class that is designed for all yoga levels, even beginners,” she said.
