The sale of property located at Rockbridge and Blueridge Roads was finalized and preparation of the site has begun for the construction of the Dollar General Market. I know we’ll be happy to see this new business open in the future.

We dodged the bullet again, concerning possible flooding from storm system Debby. My rain gauge showed 4 inches. We had another 1 to 1 1/2 inches earlier in the week. If one could say the drought we experienced in July was a blessing, it would be that the ground could take on much water. The rain itself was a blessing as our yards have gone from brown to green overnight, and hopefully it has helped the local gardens.

The Farmers Market has had a couple good weekends with several vendors, and plenty of produce, and an increase in customers. A new vendor with baked goods has joined the group on Fridays and Saturdays. Field corn, or squirrel corn, will be available this weekend.

Students go back to school today, Wednesday, across the county. Remember to stop for those school buses, and watch for children at bus stops. Here’s wishing a safe and successful school year for all.
