Editor, The News-Gazette: In response to Sarah Clayton’s letter on Aug. 7: Immigration/ immigrant means a person or persons leaving one country to move to another country.
The foundation of the United States was not created by immigrants, but by “colonists” -people who settled and created something that didn’t previously exist. Immigration in the United States officially began with the people who arrived after the Declaration of Independence (1776). There is a distinct difference, and it is wrong to overlook that difference for political expediency. TINA McCANN Lexington
