Glasgow

Carolyn Bradley, 540-258-2720 Work continues on the site of the future Dollar General Market. The land must be raised, and a drainage system put in before the foundation is laid. Unfortunately the heavy rains came before they got to the drainage part. The large pond had to be drained to continue the work. It is interesting to watch the progress day to day.

The rains also helped the local gardens and produce has been available at the Glasgow Farmers Market like corn, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe, beans and peppers. The same rains have brought new life to all the grass around town and everyone, including the town staff, has been busy trying to keep up with the growth.

The Concerned Citizens are to have its regular monthly meeting this Saturday, Aug. 24, at noon at the Thompson Center. The town’s Parks and Recreation Committee met on Monday to discuss the next Rockin’ the Gorge music event in September, and make plans for the annual Trunk-or-Treat in October. Watch for details to come.

Members of the congregation of Glasgow Baptist Church met at the church last Saturday for a workday, including some maintenance and repairs, and cleaning out, cleaning up, and, of course, being Baptist they enjoyed a delicious lunch. Pastor Wes also started working with the choir and began some Christmas music.

Judy Cash continues to recuperate at home from her recent foot surgery, and her daughter, Carolyn Jones, is also recuperating from her recent heart procedure. Judy has been able to return to Sunday school and morning worship at Glasgow Baptist.
