Relay For Life This Saturday

First Day Faces

The annual Relay For Life of Rockbridge County returns this Saturday, Aug. 24, at Central Elementary School, bringing together community members to join the fight against cancer.

The event will feature a range of activities, including:

• Opening ceremony at 7 p.m., during which survivors and caregivers are recognized.

• Survivors lap: A celebratory lap for cancer survivors, who will be cheered on by supporters.

• Luminaria ceremony at 8:30 p.m., when candles will be lit in honor of those who have battled cancer.

• Hill of Hope, remembering those lost to cancer since the last Relay For Life of Rockbridge County event in 2023.

• Fundraisers: Each team registered to be part of Relay for Life has coordinated a fundraiser at their sites. Stop by for some hot dogs, chips, drinks, lemonade, glow sticks, bracelets, P. Buckley Moss raffle, a Stanley Cup bundle raffle and more.

• Games and activities.

• Closing ceremony at 9:45 p.m.

The funds raised through Relay For Life events help the American Cancer Society fund cancer research, provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and offer prevention and early detection initiatives to save lives.
