The number of children attending school on the first day declined slightly in Lexington. Waddell Elementary School principal Clyde Keen attributed the drop to a decrease in birth rates. - White visiting the area, Virginia Lt. Gov. John Dalton said that he anticipated the state police would double the number of speed limit violators given tickets by 1975 with the implementation of mobile radar units. - Buena Vista City Council voted to proceed on schedule with planning for the second phase of construction at Glen Maury Park. Phase II included construction of a lake, a playground, trails and a campground.
