Aug. 21, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: Historically, presidents usually have been selected from governors who have spent at least four years developing competence in the job of what makes a quality “federal chief executive officer.”
Most political scientists have concurred that in the 20th century, Reagan, Truman and Wilson have been our better choices. Regardless of party affiliation, these past presidents have shown the requisite ability to “preside” over the executive branch. Like plumbers who know how to plumb, electricians who know how to control the power of electrons, we need candidates who know how to manage the presidency.
Many Democrats and Republicans will see their individual voting power evaporate in the next election. How, in good conscience, can they pull a lever for either an Old Yeller Dog or Cruella de Vil?
