On Sunday, Aug. 25, Carolyn, Wes, Mike and Andi Bradley of Glasgow, and Teri and Abby Blake of Raphine attended the annual Nicely family picnic at Douthat State Park for the descendants of the late John Ernest and Annie Sales Nicely, Carolyn’s parents, who lived in Alleghany County. The attendance was down this year, with only 11 descendants, plus a spouse, a girlfriend, and a couple visitors. There was a display of photos of ancestors, and other loved ones who have passed in recent years.

After a few well-attended Friday and Saturdays at the Farmers Market, this past Friday they only had four vendors, but 42 customers. Then Saturday, with illness a death in the family, and travel by some vendors, and the manager helping out at the Community Festival in Lexington, the market was left empty. They apologize for any inconvenience for potential vendors, and/or customers that day. Things should be up and running this coming weekend, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Hopefully, the blueberry vendor will be set up this Friday.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gary Johnson Sr. who was involved in an automobile accident recently. We wish him a speedy recovery.
