The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s will have its last barbecue chicken sale of the summer on Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at noon. On that day barbecue chicken can be purchased as half chicken only or as a dinner, which includes two sides, applesauce, roll and iced tea. The side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and slaw. Chicken will be available until all is sold. Food items may be purchased as carryout. Seating for indoor dining will also be available.
The monthly Men’s Breakfast at the Collierstown United Methodist Church will be held this Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m. The Collierstown United Methodist Church will offer on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 a Bible study class for all ages called “Faith Fellowship.” It will be led by Cheryl Meyers following the worship hour. The Collierstown United Women in Faith will meet Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the church. Linda Painter will lead the evening’s program. On Sunday, Sept. 8, a song service under the leadership of Amy Hayslette will be held at 4 p.m. at Heritage Hall.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Women’s Night Circle will hold its first meeting of the 2024-25 Bible study year on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Area women interested in participating are invited to attend. This year’s study is entitled “Hospitality: God’s Call to Compassion,” a Life Guide Bible Study by Patty Pell. Homecoming at the Union View Advent Christian Church will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the church. The homecoming worship service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a covered-dish luncheon. The day will conclude with a program of gospel singing and music led by the Ladies of Mercy.
The Collierstown United Methodist Charge will hold a joint worship service for the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb congregations on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Lake Robertson pavilion. The Rev. Daniel Montague will lead the service. A covered-dish picnic will follow the worship hour.
