Rockbridge Kidney Services Effort Supported
A growing need for kidney transplant services in southwest Virginia has prompted Carilion Clinic to apply for a certificate of need to bring these services to Roanoke. The closest such services are to this part of the state is Charlottesville.
At its Aug. 26 meeting, the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution of support for Carilion’s application. Greg Madson, CEO of Carilion Rockbridge Hospital, said there are more than 2,300 people in Virginia on a waiting list to receive a kidney.
Timber Sale
Check Presented
Zach Olinger of the Virginia Department of Forestry presented a $3,764 check to the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 that represented the county’s share of proceeds from a recent timber sale of wood harvested in the Moores Creek State Forest.
Woods surrounding the Moores Creek Reservoir west of Lexington became a state park a couple of years ago. This was the first such timber sale from the state forest. Olinger explained that the Virginia Department of Forestry receives no general funds from the state and is financially supported by timber sales and the sale of hunting and fishing licenses.
