Dinner, Bingo, Program At Rockbridge Baths VFD

On Sept. 11, Rockbridge CAN dinners at the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department will be preceded by bingo at 5 p.m. and followed by a program on dementia at 7 p.m. The CAN dinners will continue from 6 until 7 p.m.

All parts of the program are free. Participants can give a donation if they wish.

Participants can come when they want and leave when they want. They are welcome at all three parts of the schedule, at two parts, or at only one.

The Rockbridge CAN dinners will not change. They will be like the professionally catered meals that Rockbridge CAN has served in the past in Rockbridge Baths and other communities in Rockbridge County. Persons who eat them not only enjoy a delicious meal, they converse with old friends and make new friends, said a spokesperson. RATS provides free transportation to these dinners.

The goal of the bingo hour is simply to have fun, said the spokesperson There will be inexpensive prizes for winners of games.

The program at 7 p.m. is “Dementia Friendly.” It is a session to help persons know whether they or others have dementia, learn ways to better communicate with persons living with dementia, and create an action plan for how to become a Dementia Friend.

The program will be presented by Melissa Sayre, a case worker for the Valley Program for Aging Services. In this role she connects older adults with the resources that they need. She has worked for Home Instead Senior Care and Kendal at Lexington.

If enough interest is expressed, Sayre will help the Rockbridge Baths Community Organization schedule a 4.6 hour workshop for caregivers for persons with dementia.

The program that will follow the next Rockbridge CAN dinner in Rockbridge Baths on Nov. 13 will feature Mark Cline talking about “Ghosts in Rockbridge Baths.” Persons who have seen, or heard about, ghosts in Rockbridge Baths are invited to come and tell their stories.

RATS can provide transportation (one-way or two-way) only for persons who arrive around 6 p.m. and for persons who leave around 7 p.m.

This information only applies to Rockbridge CAN dinners in Rockbridge Baths. Visit Rockbridge CAN’s website and publicity for information about their dinners in other places.
