TIMELY TOPICS

Learning Labs At the Fair

A feature of this year’s Rockbridge Regional Fair and Expo taking place Sept. 1 2 - 1 4 will be “Learning Labs” on topics that empower participants to connect with stewardship and the care of natural resources in the Rockbridge region. Learn more about this year’s fair and view the Fair Book online at https:// www.rockbridgefairandexpo. org/.

Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Appomattox Mezzanine, the learning lab’s theme will be ‘Land Conservation’ where participants will learn what a soil map is and how to generate one for virtually any land parcel in the U.S., the elements of a land management plan, how to qualify for use-value-taxation benefits, and options for long-term land conservation.

Friday, September 13, at 6:30pm in the Reel Arena, the learning lab’s theme will be “Soil Health” in which participants will learn about composting and soil health and how to enhance soil health in our near environments and around the home.

Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Appomattox Mezzanine the learning lab will provide an “Introduction to Beekeeping.” This will not be a complete howto seminar on beekeeping but participants will learn how bees can benefit a landscape and get a good introduction on how to get started with beekeeping.

Folks participating in the learning labs will find other fun and entertaining things to take-in at the fair before and after the learning lab session.

The theme of this year’s Rockbridge Regional Fair is “Let the Good Times Grow” and all the fair activities provide everyone, young and old, opportunities to grow and learn. Browse this year’s fair book and choose how you will participate in this great community tradition!
