Meet & Greet Sessions Scheduled In Goshen
A few changes are coming to Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) Cafes in the Lexington and Goshen communities.
Beginning in September, the Lexington Cafe will be on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Rockbridge Regional Library in the Piovano meeting room.
In October, the Goshen Cafe, which is held on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will meet at the Goshen Community Center, located at 9742 Maury River Road.
The VPAS Cafe in Buena Vista will continue to meet at Maury River Senior Services, 2137 Magnolia Ave. each Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
VPAS Cafes are social gatherings for adults 60 years of age and older. Those under 60 are welcome to join as long as they are accompanied by a spouse who is at least 60 years of age. Each cafe features a lunch as well as a variety of life-enriching activities, including educational and health programs, light exercise, crafts, music, games, and more. Outside speakers from the local community often visit cafes to share their expertise with those in attendance.
Members are encouraged to attend cafes as often as desired. There is no cost to participate but donations are always accepted and appreciated. Guests are welcome to visit a cafe before joining to help determine if membership is right for them.
Cafe members often report that, in addition to enjoying the social engagement, lunch and programming, attending cafes informs them about the many additional resources available through VPAS. -To help build awareness about those additional resources, VPAS will be hosting a “Meet & Greet” series at the Goshen Community Center on Monday afternoons in September from 1 to 2:30.
• On Sept. 16, VPAS programs coordinator Hillary Bennington and operations manager Laynee Knick will be available to talk about VPAS Programs including Meals on Wheels, Cafes, and Senior Transportation, as well as volunteer roles.
• On Sept. 23, a VPAS case manager will be at the community center to discuss case management services for older adults. Visitors can also chat with a VPAS Medicare counselor about the upcoming open enrollment period or any other Medicare questions they may have.
• On Sept. 30, VPAS’ Chris Bowring will introduce VPAS Aging with Confidence programs. Specifically, he will talk about the health benefits of Tai Chi, providing demonstrations as requested. He will also display some art work completed during VPAS watercolor workshops and share about other educational opportunities available through Aging with Confidence programs.
