Sept. 6, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: The life experiences of our political representatives are important considerations for election to Congress. Currently, Ken Mitchell is challenging Ben Cline to represent our district in Congress.
Mitchell’s service in the military, management of construction projects and a small business, and most recently ownership of a farmette in the Valley, will allow him to address the critical issues facing the citizens of our district.
Cline’s experience is limited to that of a young lawyer who became a professional politician. First, he was an aide to Rep. Bob Goodlatte. He then was elected to the Virginia state legislature and succeeded Goodlatte in the U.S. House. He consistently follows his party’s policies, often to the detriment of our interests and the nation’s.
In contrast to Cline’s uncompromising positions on crucial matters, Mitchell’s life experiences and more moderate approach offer a path to compromise, the key to a successful democracy. FRANK SETTLE Lexington
