Sept. 6, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I recently attended a candidate meet and greet, a first for me. As an independent I wanted to hear Ken Mitchell’s approach to our district’s issues, and converse with him.
He’s highly intelligent, an excellent listener, with extensive experience. I had uninterrupted dialogue with him on several topics and received thoughtful unrehearsed answers to my questions.
Mr. Mitchell gained leadership skills in the military, delivered briefings at the federal executive level, has business and infrastructure experience, understands the pros and cons of regulation, and has built relationships with fellow farmers in our district.
By contrast Ben Cline’s only experience is as an attorney and professional politician. He has accomplished little for our district after almost six years in Congress; his legislative accomplishments are nearly nonexistent.
Ben’s newsletters contain trigger words meant to scare, with repetitive criticism about Biden policies; he offers no constructive ideas for solution.
Our diverse district deserves representation by someone who has a variety of experience working toward resolution of problems. A deadlocked Congress does us no good. Since 1952, except for a brief period from 1983 to 1993, we’ve been represented for 62 years by Republicans. It’s time for a moderate Democrat willing to cross the aisle. DEBBIE POLLARD Lexington
