Tickets Now On Sale For MidMountain Fest

MidMountain, an arts collective and nonprofit in Arnolds Valley, will host a feminist day of revelatory music, art, and storytelling using marginalized voices to reclaim the Appalachian Murder Ballad Genre at MidMountain Fest 2024 on Oct. 12.

Tickets are now on sale, starting at $40 for the daylong intersectional arts festival.

The festival will feature craft stations, art installations, voter registration, artisan vending and more than a dozen musical performances, including headline sets from internationally touring folk band South for Winter and banjoist Clover Lynn, a rising star in queer gothic bluegrass, as well as a production of “Fatal Femme Agency,” a musical live show dissecting the history and gender politics of Murder Ballads first performed at Rhizome DC in 2019.

Other musical performers on the lineup for MidMountain Fest 2024 include Elizabeth LaPrelle, Sista Zock, Elsa Howell, Amelia Empson Kelle Jolly, Becky Poole, Morgan LeFool, Bristol of New York, Doc McClintock, Betsy Podsiadlo, The Timber Bridges and Timothy Bailey.

The event will also feature workshops, including a print-making station and gourd banjo creation with Dr. Dena Jennings, who will be crafting an instrument on site that will be added to MidMountain’s permanent collection and played at the end of the festival. Art installations or presentations from the Tunnels of Light, Katherine Fahey, Marie Anderson, Miriam Julianna, the MidMountain Collective, and more will also be on site.

The MidMountain Retreat is located at 338 Arnolds Valley Road. Grounds will open at 10 a.m., with musical performances from noon to 8 p.m. Grounds will close at 9 p.m.

Music In The Mountains There was plenty of old-time music and dancing during the 37th annual Rockbridge Mountain Music and Dance Festival at Glen Maury Park last weekend. These scenes are from Friday night when Sarah Gibson was calling a dance, with music provided by Sonya Badigian and CPN Honeywell. Music in the campground (seen at left), meanwhile, continued well into the night. (Stephanie Mikels Blevins photos)
