High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 High Bridge Presbyterian Church celebrated Rally Day this past Sunday. It began with breakfast followed by a skit and a song. Then came the announcement of teachers for the 2024-25 year. There are two adult classes led by Bob Gilbert, John McCoy and Faye Worley. Teaching preschool are Dwinnie Shafer and Mary Carson Worley. Other teachers are Carol Tolley, Lea Braford and Tracy Tackett. Sunday school classes officially begin this Sunday, Sept. 15, starting at 10 a.m. Worship service begins at 11.

The deacons met after worship. Also, after worship, there was a congregational meeting to elect a nominating committee to present a slate of officers for the class of 2027. Nominated were Sam Vest, Garnette Teass, Connie Powell, Lea Braford and Andrew McCoy.

Visitors at the morning worship service included Irgirn Donato of Charleston, S.C., and Vonya Savin of Lexington. Also, a member of Virginia Military Institute lacrosse team whose coach is John McCoy. Also visiting were Fabian Garther and Caroline Kettler and their infant son, Jonua. They are from Hagen, Germany, and are spending three weeks in the area visiting with Bob Gilbert and touring points of interest in the area.

The Presbyterian Women will serve their fundraiser dinner to the Natural Bridge/Glasgow Ruritan Club at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at the fellowship hall.

The women’s circles will have a joint meeting on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The meeting begins with a potato bar, salads and desserts. There will be an overview of the new Bible study for 2024-25.

The Presbyterian Women’s mission is collecting clothing this quarter for the clothes closet at Natural Bridge Elementary School, specifically sizes 5-12 with an emphasis on elastic waists. Socks are also needed. Faye Worley will be collecting the donations each Sunday at the church.

The Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, and close at 11 am. The High Bridge congregation is collecting pasta and cooking oil for the food pantry during the month of September.
