The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its Sept. 7 barbecue chicken dinner. A total of 754 barbecue chicken halves were prepared and all were sold. The community support for the Effinger barbecues in May, July and August has been greatly appreciated. The proceeds from each event will make it possible for Effinger Fire and Rescue to continue to serve the community.
The Rev. Dr. Dale White, director of Congregational Excellence of the Valley Ridge District of the United Methodist Church, supplied the pulpit at the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb churches on Sunday, Sept. 1, in the absence of Pastor Montague. The Rev. White was chaplain at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, and spent time in Iraq with the United States armed forces.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church celebrated Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8, in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. Information on a new year of Christian education opportunities was provided. Sharing information on the C&F and Night Circles’ Bible studies for 2024-25 were Mary Jarvis and Debbie McCormick. Mike Adams of Gospel Hill Ministries spoke on the community revival scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center. Zach Nix shared information about the weekly classes available with Rockbridge Community Bible Study for men, women and children. Children of the congregation who took leadership roles in the service with assistance from Rosalea Potter and the Christian Education Committee service were Carly Potter, Chessie Gentry, Deacon Gentry, Riley Potter, Andi Potter, Logan Goodbar, Quinlin Smith and Hayes Smith. Burr Datz was the guest speaker for the worship hour.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s C&F Circle begins a new year of Bible study on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The group will be studying “Let Justice Roll Down: God’s Call to Care for Neighbors and All Creation.” Area women interested in participating are invited to attend. Homecoming Day at the Union View Advent Christian Church is Sunday, Sept. 22. The homecoming worship service will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a covered-dish luncheon. The day will conclude with a program of gospel singing and music provided by the ladies of mercy.
The Collierstown United Methodist Charge members and friends are reminded of the joint worship service for the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb congregations on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Lake Robertson pavilion. The Rev. Daniel Montague will lead the service. A covered-dish picnic will follow the worship hour.
On Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. a Community Revival will be held at the Palmer Community Center hosted by the churches of the Buffalo, Effinger and Collierstown communities. The revival will be led by Gospel Hill Ministries. Music will be provided by Datz Us Trio. All are invited to bring a lawn chair and join in this service of praise and worship.
