Glasgow Baptist Church and Pastor Wes Young Jr. ordained three men ‒ Mike Flint, Mark Rogers and Darrell Fitzgerald ‒ as new deacons and re-ordained Sonny Williams during morning worship this past Sunday. In recent years the older deacons have passed away, moved out of the community, or to other churches in the area, leaving Sonny as “the last man standing” so to speak.
With the leadership of a full-time pastor, the church is beginning to move forward and grow. This coming Sunday, Garrett Grant, a student at Liberty University, will be ordained as the new associate pastor. Garrett and his wife, Ashtyn, are residents of Glasgow and have been attending Glasgow Baptist for several weeks. Grant is also teaching a newly formed mixed group Sunday school class for adults. In two weeks there will be a baptismal service for Mark Rogers and Makenzie Camden. If you are currently looking for a church home, you are invited to come be a part of this congregation.
The last Rockin’ the Gorge music event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Locher Pavilion with Southpaw on stage. Come, bring a chair, and enjoy an evening of music, food and fellowship.
Work continues on the site of the future Dollar General Market. Tons and tons of fill dirt, and perhaps rock, have been dumped on the site to build it up to a water-safe level. A drainage system is also part of the project.
The Farmers Market is still open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Produce is still available as well as baked goods and crafts and art work. There is no definite date when the market will close for the season. It all depends upon vendor and product availability, and customer traffic.
The Concerned Citizens Organization will hold a cakewalk on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. at the Thompson Center.
