‘Founding Fathers Didn’t Establish A Democracy’

Sept. 9, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: Our Founding Fathers didn’t establish a democracy; they established a nation of individual states, with a national government extremely limited in its powers — a constitutional republic. They knew that a democracy has never benefited the masses.

Why is a powerful national government that controls 300 million people different from a plantation owner controlling 100 slaves? Slave owners regulated and distributed housing, food, health care and transportation in return for growing crops. Today, the government controls citizens through welfare programs, taxation and regulation in return for protection of political power.

Further, under today’s government, belief in God and His Commandments are being destroyed; education focuses less on teaching intellectual skills; and personal property rights no longer exist. Heck, we can’t even depend on our government to protect us - illegals entering in the millions, using our tax money to help terrorists, a shrinking military force.

What happened to individualism? Self-respect? Personal responsibility? Personal achievement? Vote for those who respect and defend you, not feed on you. Vote the Republican ticket if you want to save this republic! SUSAN WOOD Glasgow
