Main Street Buena Vista is introducing a new, fun-filled event to celebrate community spirit in the heart of downtown Buena Vista.
The Three Ole’ Grouches Contest invites residents to embrace their inner grouch while raising money to support downtown revitalization projects.
Online nominations for the contest are now open, but residents must act fast – submissions close on Sept. 21. Friends, family and neighbors can nominate their favorite “ole’ grouches” – those who embody the perfect mix of good-natured grumbling and community involvement, said MSBV Director Brooke Dalton.
Once nominations are in, seven grouches will be selected to participate in the event during the Mountain Day Festival on Oct. 12.
Nominees will be contacted following the nomination deadline to confirm their participation. Once selected, the grouches will take their places at the festival, where the fun really begins, said Dalton.
Each contestant will have a jar at MSBV’s booth, and festival-goers are encouraged to vote for their favorite grouch by dropping dollars into their jar. The grouches will roam the festival, charming or maybe grumbling their way into voters’ hearts to win those valuable donations, Dalton said.
The three grouches who collect the most money by 3 p.m. will be declared the winners of the Three Ole’ Grouches Contest. Winners will be announced at Town Square during the festival, with all proceeds going towards MSBV’s ongoing mission of enhancing Buena Vista’s downtown district.
“This contest is a playful way to bring the community together while supporting local revitalization efforts,” said Dalton. “We can’t wait to see who gets crowned our Three Ole’ Grouches of Buena Vista!”
