The Southern Virginia University Theatre program will present “Love, Broadway,” the program’s first musical revue, featuring beloved Broadway love songs on Sept. 27–28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
“It’s like the love letter from Broadway,” said Dallyn Bayles, assistant professor of theater and Broadway performer. “It’s a presentation of different songs tied together with a theme and a little bit of a story, and it’s about all aspects of love. Songs that reflect the thrill of your first love, songs about friendship, and songs about family. It’s going to be a lot of fun for the audience, and we’re really excited to put it on.”
A musical revue is a multi-act popular theatrical entertainment that combines music, dance, and sketches that often focus on a particular theme. Following the theme of love, Southern Virginia’s theatre revue will include songs from “Les Miserables,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Wicked,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” and more.
Marking his directorial debut at Southern Virginia University, Bayles will also perform a medley of “Music of the Night/All I Ask of You” from “Phantom of the Opera” during the pre-show. Patrick Summers serves as the accompanist and music director, and Associate Professor of Theater David Dwyer as the technical director.
Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite with general admission $11 and senior tickets $9. Concessions will also be available for purchase.
