Sept. 25, 1974

By the same 3-2 margin by which it earlier turned down the request, the Lexington School Board reversed its decision and voted to provide bus transportation for the city’s elementary schools. The vote came following a special meeting at Lylburn Downing School, which was attended by approximately 40 parents and school patrons. - The Lexington-Rockbridge County Chamber of Commerce officials discussed a proposal for a new airport site in the area, consisting of a designated landing strip and “fairly decent” airport facilities, according to George Persinger, chairman of the airport committee for the chamber. - Lexington City Council gave the go-ahead for underground placement of electric and telephone wires in the downtown business area.

Sept. 29, 2004

Thirty-plus students and nearly the entire faculty of Effinger Elementary School found themselves trapped for several hours by high waters, which washed over Va. 251 on both sides of the school as the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne came through the area. -A motion to extend the Dec. 15 deadline for filing the final construction documents for the new courthouse was submitted by Lexington city attorney Larry Mann. - Area resident Ken Asbury and his twin sons Jimmy and Jase were on leave after spending much of the past year in war zones in Afghanistan and Iraq.
