Sandra Laronde, creator and artistic director of Red Sky Performance, will be the keynote speaker for the Lenfest Center’s third installment of its fall Outreach & Engagement (O&E) Series on Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Evans Dining Hall on the Washington and Lee campus.
During the evening, patrons will have the opportunity to experience an authentic chef-prepared Indigenous dinner and interact with the dancers of Red Sky. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Tickets are required and must be purchased in advance. Limited tickets are available. Tickets prices are $36.73 per person for the talk and dinner. Ticket sales for this event will conclude Sept. 30.
A highly accomplished arts innovator, multidisciplinary artist and visionary leader, Laronde is from the Teme-Augama Anishinaabe, the People of the Deep Water, in Temagami, northern Ontario and based in Toronto.
Laronde’s extensive body of creations include dance, theater, music and media. At the heart of her work lies a commitment to storytelling and ongoing exploration and experimentation.
Her life’s passion is to move the Indigenous narrative from the margins into the center of Canada’s consciousness for seven generations to come. Much of her work is about growing and elevating the Indigenous canon. Laronde actively engages in diplomacy through the arts, forging stronger ties by representing the nation at prominent international delegations, events and platforms.
Most recently, Laronde has added “author” to her list of accomplishments with her debut novel, “She Holds Up the Stars,” published by Annick Press in August 2022.
