The Parry McCluer High School volleyball team lost 3-0 at Pioneer District rival Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday of last week.
The Mustangs improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in district play with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 victory over the Fighting Blues, who fell to 6-9 on the season and 0-2 in the district.
“We definitely did not play at the top of our game,” said PM head coach Jessie Moala, whose team was slated to take on EM in Buena Vista last night.
In last week’s game in Elliston, sophomore setter Keely Mahaffey notched her 100th assist of the season, finishing the night with four assists and two kills. Natalie Mohler contributed four assists and five digs for the Blues, while Logan Vest tallied four digs and two service aces and Emory Slagle chipped in two kills and one ace.
Moala also highlighted the performances of senior middle hitter Peira Conner and junior outside Allie Cullen as bright spots. Conner totaled two kills, one block and one ace, and Cullen recorded four digs.
“Peira had the most consistent serving game she’s had this season,” Moala said. “Allie also had a lot of great saves on the court.”
The Blues’ home contest against Craig County, originally slated for last Thursday, has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 14. Following last night’s rematch with the Mustangs, PM will play host to Bath County on Thursday, beginning with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m. The Blues will then welcome in Highland County for a varsity doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
