Experience the sights, sounds and tastes of fall in 1850s Lexington at the Jackson House Museum this Saturday, Oct. 5, with the annual Apple Day celebration, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We’ve been hosting this event for 40 years,” said Maj. Grace Moyer, Jackson House Museum site director. “What I love most now is seeing families come full circle – parents who attended as children are now returning with their own kids and even their parents. It has become a cherished tradition across generations.”
The age-old tradition of cider pressing will be showcased. Those attending will be afforded an opportunity to crank the antique cider press. The Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers will be bringing history to life with lively performances of period dances, with everyone invited to join in the dancing.
From hands-on crafts like jewelry making, doll crafting, and toy building, to 19th century games, there will be something for children of all ages to enjoy. Storytellers will spin captivating tales of the past. All demonstrations and activities are free. The Jackson House Museum is located at 8 E. Washington St. in Lexington. The house, store, garden and exhibit gallery will be open during the event. Admission to the museum is free for residents of Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County.
